I spent 10 years traveling the country setting up spine centers before I joined SpineZone in 2014 to manage operations for the company. During my travels I saw several outpatient rehabilitation programs with some more successful than others. I was most interested in those programs designed for back and neck pain patients who had long-standing, unresolved pain and who wanted to reduce or eliminate their high usage of pain medication.
What I recognized quickly in one of the successful programs was something I learned in the gym and also from reading Bill Phillips’ book Body for Life. By changing from a workout log book to a workoutplanning book you can make a significant difference in your results.
This successful clinical program was applying this technique by teaching patients to build their own plan to manage their back pain, building confidence and ownership in their personal plan during their clinical time together.
SpineZone incorporates this same philosophy, helping people gain control of their back and neck pain by giving you the confidence and tools to improve their posture, flexibility, strength, and conditioning and therefore better manage their chronic pain. I am always amazed to see how quickly our patients gain strength and confidence by planning their recovery. Helping patients plan is critical to their success and I periodically return to Phillips’ book to remind myself.
